Dixie Land

Yesterday we took a mini vacation since Leah starts school on Monday. We went to Stone Mountain which is sort of like an amusement park, but w/o rides if that makes sense. There was miniature golfing, a ropes course, shops, lots of fun activities, a laser show, etc. Leah's favorite part was miniature golfing. Kaitlyn loved riding on a zipline. Stone Mountain is a huge slab of exposed granite rising to an elevation of 1600 feet above sea level (not Rocky Mountain impressive, but steep nonetheless).

Well, at Stone Mountain we got our first taste of living in the South. There were several plaques commemorating the dates when various southern states suceeded the Union, the dates when they joined the Confederacy, and the dates when they rejoined the Union (plaques provided by the Daughters of the Confederacy). The laser show featured a rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" with images of Robert E. Lee charging to battle and the Confederate flag being retired. That was different! Perhaps the best example of living here though came from Jared's friend at work...his son came home from school and asked, "Dad, why did we lose the War?" That speaks volumes!

Wow!!! I am speechless, that should be some fun conversations that you and the kids will have when they start study US History. Talk about a different take on the event. Miss you all, good to see that you are having fun out there.

Wow - you guys start school early down there! It looks like you'll have to engrain some hard core Yankee knowledge into Leah's brain to offset her history lessons. Can't wait to hear what she has to tell when she comes home from school! :)
