I should have worn green...

The luck of the Irish did not seem to be with us yesterday. Hyrum has been sick since Saturday (fever, cough, not eating or drinking much). I took him to the doctor's office Monday where they ruled out strep, the flu, and pneumonia (after a traumatizing chest x-ray). The doctor wanted to see him again Wednesday. His fever left Tuesday, so I left a message with the nurse asking if we really needed to come in Wednesday, or if we could see how he was doing over the next few days. She called me back and said to come in because his oxygen levels were low on Monday. I made an appointment for 2:20pm. Leah and Kaitlyn get home from school about 3:15, so I thought I would either get home before them or very soon after they arrived home. I left the door unlocked and left a note telling them where I was, to come in, lock the door, get a snack and I would be home very soon. When I got to the doctor's office I found out that Hyrum's oxygen levels still weren't good and he would need a nebulizer treatment. I knew then I probably wouldn't be home in time, so I decided to call Jared to come home early, and I was going to also call my neighbor. I quickly found out I could get no cell phone reception in the office or in the lobby. I used an office phone to leave a message for Jared, and I called the girls to make sure they were okay. Then, I had to stay at the doctor's office until about 4:30 while Hyrum was crying/screaming/whimpering for a lot of the visit. We found out he has an ear infection and RSV. He does not like the nebulizer at all. When we were finally done, I checked my cell messages in the parking lot. I had 3 messages from Leah and Kaitlyn. I need to interject a side issue here...before Leah and Kaitlyn had gone to school I had gone over stranger danger again because there is an alleged kidnapper cruising around nearby neighborhoods right now and everyone is on alert. So, the first message was Leah assuring me that they got home safely and she knew I would be worried because of the kidnapper. Second message was Leah saying that someone rang the doorbell and she opened the door a crack and no one was there. She wanted to know if she should be worried about that. Kaitlyn was crying hysterically in the background. Third message was Kaitlyn trying to talk to me but I couldn't understand anything she said because of all the crying. I quickly called home and found out that Leah and Kaitlyn had talked with Daddy on the phone (who still hadn't been able to come home) and they felt fine now.

So, I came right home and found the girls on the couch watching tv with steak knives in their hands pointed at the ceiling. I said, "let's put away the steak knives carefully" and they replied, "Daddy said we could". I asked, "Daddy said you could sit on the couch with steak knives?" Leah responded, "Daddy said it would be okay to defend ourselves if we needed to". Ay, ay, ay!

On a more positive note, I also saw that we have spring flowers up now! We hope you had a better St. Patrick's Day!

Oh man! What a bummer! So sorry Hyrum, we hope you get better QUICK! I have to admit though I laughed pretty hard when I saw that picture of Leah and Kaitlyn with the knives on the couch! I wouldn't want to cross them! ;)

So sorry about Hyrum - we know all about the ear infections and nebulizer stuff. I am so glad you thought to take a picture of the girls with their knives. That's just, well, PRICELESS!! I pitty the fool who tries to kidnap them! Hope everyone's feeling better.

All I have to say is, there better be BETTER luck waiting for you at the other end of the rainbow--what a crazy day! I hope Hyrum continues to improve and that the girls are feeling more safe and sound so they can enjoy TV without the steak knives...I sure hope to see that picture show up at their graduations and weddings, it most certainly is priceless! And Genevieve, may the rest of the week be less eventful for you so you can get some type of a breather...

Wow, those girls with those knives! {That's quite the interpretation of Daddy saying it was okay to defend themselves! =)} Good for you for getting a picture! That will definitely be one to reminisce over.

I'm glad everyone got home safely, and I'm sorry to hear poor Hyrum was so miserable. Hope he gets better soon!

Oh Gennevieve, what a post!!! I am so sorry about all the traumatic parts, but I couldn't help laughing at your adorable self-defensive girls! How prepared are they!!!! I hope Hyrum feels better soon.

We hope Hyrum starts feeling better. The girls looked like they could take care of themselves pretty well if need be. What a funny picture!

This was the funniest story ever! I remember being a little girl home alone, and being totally creeped out by every little noise. I never thought of the steak knives though, that's awesome. I'm going to have to show Jonathan this!
