Lessons from 9/11

Tonight we took the opportunity to teach Leah about September 11, 2001. We learned things as well as we remembered the events and lessons of the day. I remember watching the television while holding her as a baby all day in shock. Here are some lessons we tried to teach her that we learned from the event:

1. Many many people lost their lives and we need to remember them.
2. There were countless heroes that day including rescue officials and people on the planes that gave their lives.
3. Our world changed on September 11.
4. The terrorists do not represent the nations they came from or the religions they claim to follow.
5. Our nation relearned how to unite.
6. Many people in our nation relearned how to love others and reach out in service.
7. We are still at war and we must not forget the lessons we learned from September 11.
8. We must remember the soldiers who are still risking and giving their lives for our freedom.
9. Heavenly Father does not take away agency, and sometimes He allows tragedies to occur. Agency is an essential part of His plan.

It was humbling to teach Leah. The atmosphere was reverent, tearful, and somber. We're grateful for our freedoms and for those who sacrifice for us. It's good to remember.

This was a great teaching.learning opportunity. What great parents to sit down with her and take the time to help her understand!

I remember going to your apartment on Sept. 11 and how you helped comfort me. Thanks for your great examples!

A bishop in our stake lost his parents who were on one of the planes used to destroy one of the twin towers. Great teaching, Jared and Genevieve. (I don't know if I know how to forward this, we'll see.)
