Hyrum's First Birthday Party

This year Hyrum came to me and said, "I've NEVER had a birthday party" to which I responded, "you're right, you haven't".  He has wanted one in the past but he hasn't really generated a guest list and I wasn't going to host a party just so he could get lots of presents.  This year he has made a lot of progress with making friends, so I said he could have a party.  He chose the theme of "Phineas and Ferb" after the tv cartoon.  There were about 15 kids in attendance which was a bit chaotic, so we didn't take a bunch of pictures.  When the kids arrived we let them watch an episode of the show as a gathering activity.  We let them watch "The Day of the Living Gelatin" so that they would understand the jello snack later.  Then we divided into two groups and gave them a bunch of junk to create something.  Phineas and Ferb are constantly inventing.  The girls came up with a lot of inventions.  The boys came up with a lot of weapons, but in the end had nothing to show because they destroyed all of their creations!  Pretty funny!  After this activity we headed outside for a pinata, "the depresentinator".  On the show the bad guy is always inventing destructive contraptions.  We said he had invented the depresentinator to destroy all the presents in the tri-state area, so the kids had to destroy the machine.  When the pinata broke the kids scrambled for the pre-blown balloons inside.  They were supposed to blow the balloons and play with them while we listened to the song "Busted" from the show.  The music didn't cooperate so we played for a few minutes and then busted the balloons.  Then we headed in for snacks and presents.  He enjoyed his first birthday party and it seemed to be a hit!
