Hyrum and Amy won 1st place in their grades for the Impressions contest (the school art contest). The theme was "Heroes around us." Hyrum did a computer animated presentation explaining what a hero is and that we can be heroes. Amy wrote the following poem:
heroes around us
heroes around us, that you can see,
who do not fight villans or use TNT.
police DO point their guns and they DO stop the bad,
then everyone else can feel happy or glad.
firemen save animals who get stuck in trees,
or go in fires 100 degrees!
ambulances are able to save people's lives,
help people who get hurt and then they survive.
now you know heroes, that you can see,
so anyone could be a hero,
even me!
Amy was sick the day of the awards ceremony, so we only got a picture of Hyrum.
Jared, Leah and Kaitlyn went to South Carolina for a hurricane cleanup trip. They mucked houses while there.
Hyrum and Amy participated in Rocket fest at the elementary school (a bottle rocket contest).
Hyrum participated in a chorus contest in which all the elementary schools, middle school, and high school joined together to sing.
We had the opportunity to go to Marianna, Florida as a family to help with hurricane cleanup efforts. It really wasn't a sacrifice to go. We gained far more from the experience than we gave. It was a special time as a family, and we enjoyed bringing some joy to others who had suffered so much.
I didn't get good pictures of the sea of tents from all the volunteers. There were about 1500 volunteers.
The kids found a huge vine and took a break to play tug of war.
The lady at this house said she used to not be able to see the sky because of all the trees.

Hyrum and Amy attended a 5th grade fundraiser at Rockin Jump at the end of October. They had never been before and had a great time.
Kaitlyn and Leah had orchestra concerts. They were allowed to wear costumes if they wanted, so Leah opted to be Batman.

Halloween was a multi-day affair for our family including a High School Trunk or Treat, an Elementary School costume dance, and trick-or-treating. Each of our children enjoyed dressing up.
