We also got some milk and food coloring and experimented with mixing colors. When the kids were done we added one drop of dish soap and watched the colors dance. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to try it!
We tried making a lava lamp with oil, water, food colring and Alka Seltzer tablets. It didn't turn out very well, but the kids had fun watching it anyway.
We ate rainbow colored cupcakes.
We did play a few games like Twister and a musical chairs type game with colored squares. And, we had fun just hanging out together!
One experiment we did that had to finish after the kids left was water absorption. We took paper towels and placed them in cups filled with colored water (like red and blue) then put the other end of the towel in another cup filled with a tiny bit of clear water. While the kids were here the colored water traveled up the paper towels to about the rim of the cups. Look what happened when we let them sit for about a day!
